Plan on monetary assistance to victimized migrant labours soon

 

Patna,(BiharTimes): The Bihar government is thinking in terms of providing monetary assistance to those migrant labourers working outside the state who get injured in any mob attack.

This follows the repeated attack on Bihari labourers in different parts of the country. It has decided to distribute identity cards to migrant labourers in unorganized sector.


The Bihar government last year introduced Migrant Labour Accidental Benefit Scheme 2008 which provides monetary assistance of Rs one lakh to the next of kin to the migrant labourer. So far 112 such labouers have been benefited by the Scheme.

According to Vaisji, Principal Secretary Labour Resources department very soon the state will have provisions to pay compensations to such migrant labourers, who get disabled or are partially disabled in any form of mob violence outside the state. A two-member fact finding team even visited Ludhiana after the attack and submitted its report to the state government.

Recently one migrant labour was killed and several others injured in violence in Ludhiana. Attacks are common in Maharashtra, Assam, Manipur, Tripura etc.

The labour department in collaboration with the UNDP is also working on a project that includes provision of identity card to the labours. The state government is also planning to set up helpline service for them.
