Now SHGs, Gram Panchayats to get preference in PDS outlets

Patna (Bihar Times): Now the self-help groups (SHGs) and members of the gram panchayat will get preference in the distribution of new licence for the public distribution system (PDS) outlets. They will replace unemployed youths in the priority list.

There will be seven criteria for the allotment of the new licence. Now in Schedule Caste/Schedule Tribe dominated villages there will be one shop for every 1,000 population. There will be one PDS outlet for every 1,900 population in the rural areas and one for every 1,300 population in urban areas of Bihar.

 

Reservation rule will be followed in the distribution of new licence. There is shortage of 3,888 shops in the state. The SHGs will be given top priority. Gram panchayat sahkari samiti, women groups, handicapped, ex-servicemen will follow them. Unemployed youths will be next in the priority list. The last to get licence will be the citizen of the ward.

The Schedule Castes will get the reservation of 16 per cent, Schedule Tribes one per cent, Other Backward Castes 18 per cent, Most Backward Castes 12 per cent and woman of backward caste three percent.
