Patna:(BiharTimes) Preparations have begun for the construction of a three-storey ‘Patna Haat’ in the state capital to promote traditional art forms, handicrafts and women entrepreneurship. The modern haat will come up on the western side of Sabhyata Dwar at Gandhi Maidan, with an estimated cost of Rs 48.96 crore.
The project is being implemented by the Bihar State Tourism Development Corporation Limited (BSTDC) and is expected to be completed within about two years. To make way for the project, the existing Ekta Bhawan is being demolished, and construction will begin once the site is cleared.
The site earmarked for Patna Haat was earlier known as Ekta Bhawan, which housed STF personnel. The structure is now being removed to pave the way for a grand, three-storey emporium equipped with modern facilities. The government plans to develop Patna Haat as a new tourism hub in the capital.
One of the key highlights of Patna Haat is that it will provide a permanent marketplace for women entrepreneurs to showcase and sell their products. Traditional art forms such as Madhubani painting, Manjusha art from Bhagalpur, and Patna’s renowned Tikuli and Sikki crafts will be prominently featured.
Handicrafts from across the state—including bamboo and cane crafts from Samastipur, clay and terracotta art from Darbhanga, Sujani embroidery from Muzaffarpur, stone crafts from Gaya, and Booti art from Nalanda—will also be on display, offering visitors a comprehensive glimpse of Bihar’s rich cultural heritage.
Patna Haat is being designed as more than just a shopping destination. The complex will have both underground and surface parking facilities to ensure smooth traffic management even during peak hours. Restaurants and a game zone for children and youth are also planned, making it a family-friendly destination.
Integration with Ganga Riverfront project
The upcoming Patna Haat will be directly connected to the Ganga Riverfront being developed from Collectorate Ghat to Digha, as well as the JP Ganga Path Integrated Garden project. Green spaces, parks and playfields will be developed in the surrounding area to enhance footfall and boost tourism in the region.
Once completed, Patna Haat is expected to emerge as a major attraction for tourists while providing sustained livelihood opportunities for artisans and women entrepreneurs from across Bihar.
