Parents of Bihar NEET aspirant stage protest at Jantar Mantar, seek justice over daughter's death

New Delhi, Feb 9:(BiharTimes) The parents of a Bihar NEET aspirant, who died in Patna last month, on Sunday joined a protest at Jantar Mantar in the national capital, demanding justice and alleging that they were forced to approach Delhi after failing to get relief in Bihar.

Speaking to reporters, the victim’s father said the family had exhausted all options in the state. “If we had received justice in Bihar, why would we have come to Delhi? I will continue to fight till my last breath to ensure justice for my daughter,” he said.

Echoing similar sentiments, the mother said the family’s sole demand was justice. “If we had received justice in Bihar, we would not have come here. I want justice for my daughter,” she said.

According to police, the NEET aspirant died during treatment at a hospital in Patna. While there were initial reports alleging sexual assault, police have stated that doctors have not confirmed sexual or penetrative assault in the case so far.

On January 31, Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary said that the Nitish Kumar-led state government had urged the Centre to hand over the investigation to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

Last month, the incident had triggered protests in Patna as parents gathered outside the hostel where the student was staying, alleging non-cooperation by hostel authorities and claiming that students were unable to resume their studies following the incident.

In the aftermath, Patna Police suspended two police officers for alleged lapses in handling the case. Those suspended include Chitragupta Nagar police station SHO Roshni Kumari and Kadamkuan police station additional SHO Hemant Jha. In a press statement, the police said the action was taken due to delayed response and failure to collect intelligence in a timely manner.

Earlier, police had also disclosed that forensic examination by the FSL found traces of human sperm on an undergarment allegedly worn by the deceased at the time of the incident. “A DNA profile is being prepared from the sample,” the statement said.

Police said the DNA sample would be matched with those of the arrested accused and other suspects identified by the Special Investigation Team to ascertain further details in the case.
