Prashant Kishor launches 'Bihar Navanirmaan Yatra', seeks fulfilment of women's employment scheme promise

Bagaha (BiharTimes): After failing to make a significant electoral impact in the 2025 Bihar Assembly elections and facing a setback in the Supreme Court, Jan Suraaj Party founder Prashant Kishor on Sunday launched a state-wide organisational tour aimed at strengthening the party at the grassroots.

Kishor flagged off the “Bihar Navanirmaan Yatra” from Bagaha in West Champaran district, saying the campaign is focused on rebuilding and expanding the party’s organisational base across all districts. He said the yatra will involve reconnecting with old associates, inducting new members, and reinforcing the party’s grassroots structure.

Addressing party workers and supporters, Kishor appealed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar to ensure that every woman entrepreneur who applied under the ‘Mukhyamantri Mahila Rozgaar Yojana’ receives the promised Rs 2 lakh to expand her business. He alleged that the commitment made before the elections must now be honoured.

He further said that Jan Suraaj workers would go door-to-door to ensure that eligible women receive the amount. “If the government fails to fulfil this promise, it will be clear that the announcement was made only for electoral gains,” he said.

Responding to questions on the party’s performance in the recent Assembly elections, Kishor said the people of Bihar had clearly defined the role of each political formation. “The NDA has been given the mandate to run the government, the RJD has been assigned the role of the Opposition, and Jan Suraaj has been entrusted with the responsibility of working among the people on public issues,” he said, adding that the party would discharge this responsibility “with complete sincerity”.

The Jan Suraaj Party had recently approached the Supreme Court challenging the 2025 Bihar Assembly elections and seeking fresh polls, alleging misuse of a welfare scheme to influence voters. The petition challenged the Bihar government’s decision to allegedly transfer Rs 10,000 each to women beneficiaries under the ‘Mukhyamantri Mahila Rozgaar Yojana’ after the announcement of the election schedule, claiming it violated the Model Code of Conduct.

The Supreme Court, however, rejected the plea, observing that it could not issue sweeping directions to cancel the Bihar Assembly elections in their entirety at the behest of a political party.
