Vehicles to ply on Kachhi Dargah - Bidupur six-lane Ganga bridge in three months: CM Nitish Kumar

Patna:(BiharTimes) Vehicular movement on the much-awaited Kachhi Dargah–Bidupur six-lane Ganga bridge is expected to begin within the next three months, with the remaining construction work likely to be completed by April, officials informed Chief Minister Nitish Kumar during an inspection on Sunday.

The Chief Minister reviewed the progress of the prestigious Kachhi Dargah–Bidupur six-lane Ganga bridge project and directed officials to expedite the remaining works, including the construction of approach roads, to ensure smooth and uninterrupted traffic flow.

Officials told the Chief Minister that the project is being executed at a fast pace and that all pending works would be completed by April. Emphasising timely completion, Nitish Kumar said the bridge would provide seamless road connectivity from the Patna capital region to north Bihar, significantly benefiting the local population.

“The completion of the Kachhi Dargah–Bidupur six-lane Ganga bridge will boost agriculture, industry and other business activities in the region. It will also make it easier for patients to reach Patna for emergency medical treatment,” the Chief Minister said.

He recalled that after the inauguration of the first phase of the project, connectivity between Patna and Raghopur has already been restored. He added that he has been regularly monitoring the project and issuing directions to ensure its early completion.

Nitish Kumar said that once fully operational, the bridge would also reduce traffic pressure on the Mahatma Gandhi Setu and provide an additional alternative route between north and south Bihar, making travel more convenient. “People will be able to travel to various parts of north Bihar directly from outside Patna city, easing congestion within the capital,” he said.

The Chief Minister further noted that the bridge would be connected to the Amas–Darbhanga Expressway, which would greatly benefit commuters travelling towards Samastipur, Darbhanga and Madhubani by saving time and improving travel efficiency. “We are continuously constructing quality roads and bridges in the state to make transportation smoother,” he added.

It may be recalled that on June 23, 2025, the Chief Minister had inaugurated the newly constructed stretch from Kachhi Dargah in Patna to Raghopur Diara in Vaishali district. The Kachhi Dargah–Bidupur project is a 19.76-km-long six-lane greenfield bridge project over the Ganga, connecting Kachhi Dargah on National Highway-30 in Patna with Bidupur on National Highway-103 in Vaishali district. The project includes a 9.76-km-long bridge and around 10 km of approach roads.

The first phase, covering 4.57 km from Kachhi Dargah, Patna to Raghopur Diara, Vaishali, has already been inaugurated. Construction is currently underway in the second phase from Hajipur–Mahnar road (NH-122B) to Chaksikandar (NH-322), and in the third phase from Raghopur Diara to the Hajipur–Mahnar road (NH-122B).

Several senior officials and public representatives were present during the inspection, including JD(U) national executive president and MP Sanjay Kumar Jha, Road Construction Department secretary Pankaj Kumar Pal, Chief Minister’s secretaries Kumar Ravi and Dr Chandrashekhar Singh, Bihar State Road Development Corporation Limited Managing Director Tirsat Kapil Ashok, Patna District Magistrate Dr Tyagarajan S.M., Vaishali District Magistrate Varsha Singh and Patna Senior Superintendent of Police Kartikeya K.
