Patna, Feb 10: Proceedings in the Bihar Legislative Council were disrupted on Tuesday after opposition members created an uproar demanding an apology from Chief Minister Nitish Kumar for allegedly making objectionable remarks against RJD leader and former chief minister Rabri Devi. The disorder led to the suspension of opposition MLCs for the day and their eviction from the House by marshals.
The ruckus began soon after the Council assembled around noon. RJD MLC Abdul Qari Sohaib raised the issue, insisting that Nitish Kumar be summoned to the House and compelled to apologise for comments purportedly made a day earlier.
Despite repeated appeals from the Chair, opposition members continued sloganeering, bringing legislative business to a halt. The Chair subsequently ordered their suspension for the remainder of the day, following which marshals escorted the protesting members out of the House.
The controversy stems from heated exchanges in the Council on Monday, when the opposition sought the chief minister’s response to recent incidents of rape in the state. During the chaos, Nitish Kumar and Rabri Devi were seen engaging in an animated exchange amid loud protests, though their remarks could not be heard as microphones had been switched off.
Normal proceedings resumed after the opposition members were evicted.
