State Human Rights Commission Takes Cognisance of Patna NEET Aspirant's Death

Patna: The Bihar State Human Rights Commission has taken cognisance of the death of a NEET aspirant who was staying at a girls’ hostel in Patna while preparing for the medical entrance examination.

The student, a native of Jehanabad district in Bihar, was residing at Shambhu Girls’ Hostel in the Kankarbagh area of the city. Her death has sparked concern after details emerging from the post-mortem report reportedly indicated circumstances that observers have described as serious.

The Commission acted on a petition filed by Muzaffarpur-based human rights lawyer S.K. Jha, who termed the matter “extremely grave.” During the hearing, the Commission issued a notice to the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Patna, seeking a detailed report within eight weeks.

According to Jha, injury marks found on the body and other surrounding circumstances point towards the possibility of a major criminal incident. He urged the Commission to order a fair and high-level investigation under the supervision of a retired judge to ensure transparency and accountability.

Taking the matter seriously, the Commission has summoned the SSP, Patna, and fixed the next date of hearing for April 22.

The case has drawn public attention in the state, with calls for a thorough probe into the circumstances leading to the young aspirant’s death.
