Patna: The Bihar government will soon finalise a comprehensive strategy to promote the cultivation of Terminalia arjuna, a medicinal tree widely used in Ayurveda for treating heart ailments, State Health Minister Mangal Pandey informed the Assembly on Friday.
Replying to a calling attention motion, the minister said the plan would be prepared in coordination with other departments and would place special emphasis on districts in north Bihar, where climatic conditions are considered suitable for the species.
“Terminalia arjuna is a popular herbal medicine owing to the presence of bioactive compounds such as antioxidants and anti-inflammatory agents. The government will soon finalise a comprehensive plan to promote its cultivation,” Pandey said.
The initiative is expected to align with the state’s broader efforts to encourage medicinal plant farming, diversify agricultural income, and strengthen traditional healthcare systems. Officials indicated that inter-departmental consultations would focus on identifying suitable land, farmer incentives, and market linkages to ensure sustainable production.
The bark of Terminalia arjuna has long been used in Ayurvedic formulations aimed at supporting cardiovascular health, and demand for herbal raw materials has been rising steadily in recent years.
