PATNA, March 1: Sanjay Kumar Jha, Member of Parliament from Janata Dal (United), on Sunday said he has spoken to External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar regarding the safety of Bihari residents living in West Asia amid escalating tensions in the region.
Jha expressed concern following the recent military strikes by the United States and Israel on Iran, which have heightened fears of instability across West Asia. He urged the Centre to take “swift and effective measures” to safeguard Indian nationals, including a large number of workers and professionals from Bihar employed in Gulf countries.
“I have been receiving anxious calls from families worried about the safety of their loved ones,” Jha said, adding that the government must remain vigilant and prepared for any contingency.
He emphasized the need for close monitoring of the situation and proactive diplomatic engagement to ensure the security and, if required, safe evacuation of Indian citizens from affected areas.
The Ministry of External Affairs is closely tracking developments in the region, with Indian missions reportedly in touch with community representatives and local authorities.
Thousands of people from Bihar are employed across West Asian nations, particularly in sectors such as construction, hospitality, healthcare, and services. Families back home have expressed growing concern over their well-being amid the unfolding crisis.
